Invited via email, on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at 4:00 P.M. we attended the very elegant, grand gala opening at Bock Art limited, 16 Hill Street, Southampton , New York 11968. The opening, serving sushi and champagne, etc. on a gorgeous day, was poorly attended when we were there, but possibly the in-crowd arrived later, at a more fashionable hour. I was greeted very personally and warmly by the convivial artist himself, Mr. Bock, painter and photographer. Very strangely, his first name appears nowhere on his beautiful website: http://www.bockartlimited.com/ His photos are indeed painterly, very large
(4′ by 5′, while some are even larger), colorful, and graphic design-ish. The digital photos are printed directly onto canvas, sans traditional mats and frames. They are priced from $ 950 to $ 8,000. Almost all of them are deliberately out of focus, so as to create more abstract images, he said. It was an interesting exhibit. I think his beautiful work is quite commercial and that it would do well in the advertising world. He owns, or rents, this lovely gallery space himself, and so all future art exhibitions will be only of his art. “Nice work, if you can get it…” – Billie Holiday
